THINGS HAPPENING...

Food for the soul begins 2026 with a renewed mission to serve.

Shelter Renovations

This year, Food for the Soul completed renovations that created a more welcoming and functional space for our residents. A major addition was the creation of transitional rooms, designed to bridge the gap between emergency shelter and independent living for residents who have shown consistent progress and commitment to their goals. This program provides residents with up to eight months to save money, maintain employment, and secure permanent housing while building accountability through a small monthly program fee. Additional improvements included new living room furniture, a refreshed front desk area, and updated cabinetry, helping create a space that feels more comfortable, dignified, and like home.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

LIFE SKILLS 101: LEARNING TOGETHER

Our Life Skills 101 program gives residents the opportunity to build confidence through hands-on learning in a welcoming, supportive environment. Our recent Labor Day celebration was filled with fun, fellowship, and meaningful learning! Our residents had the opportunity to get hands-on in the kitchen alongside our Executive Director and Grant Writer, preparing food while learning valuable real-life skills. From meal preparation and kitchen safety to teamwork, organization, and building confidence, this experience gave our residents practical skills they can carry with them beyond their time at Food for the Soul. We believe that everyday moments like cooking together can create opportunities for growth, independence, and connection, and we loved celebrating Labor Day while doing just that!

DAILY WORK BRINGS HOPE

At Food for the Soul, we believe that providing hope means equipping our residents with the tools they need to build a brighter, more independent future. Our Outreach Coordinator, Hannah, leads Mental Health Mondays and Finance Fridays, offering workshops designed to help residents develop essential life skills. Through Mental Health Mondays, residents learn about emotional wellness, healthy coping strategies, stress management, and the importance of prioritizing their mental health. Finance Fridays focus on practical financial skills, including budgeting, managing expenses, saving money, and making informed financial decisions. These workshops provide valuable opportunities for residents to learn, grow, and build confidence as they work toward stability and self-sufficiency. We are grateful for Hannah’s dedication to empowering our residents and helping them take meaningful steps toward a fresh start.

A Story of Hope, Healing, and Giving Back

One of the most meaningful moments at our Celebrate the Soul event was hearing from Ruth, a former Food for the Soul resident, as she shared her personal journey and the impact FFTS had on her life. Through her heartfelt speech, Ruth expressed how the support, resources, and encouragement she received during her time with us helped her move forward and find hope for a brighter future. Inspired by her experience, Ruth went on to start a garden as a way to give back and share that same sense of hope with others. Her garden represents more than just growing plants, it is a beautiful reminder that with support, compassion, and perseverance, new beginnings are possible. Ruth’s story embodies the heart of Food for the Soul’s mission: providing meals, shelter, and hope while empowering individuals to rebuild their lives and, in turn, make a difference in the lives of others.
