What Kind of Donations Do You Accept?
Food for the Soul accepts donations of food, clothes, goods, money, and volunteer work. Our specific needs evolve on a day-to-day basis, but our current wishlist includes the following items:
- Food: Canned, precooked, premade, and prepackaged foods, as well as fresh produce.
- Clothes: Cold-weather caps/hats, cold-weather gloves, sweatpants, undergarments, T-shirts, and clothes should be considered gently used or new and to please call first before bringing in clothing donations
- Goods: Paper towels, liquid bleach, liquid laundry detergent (HE), disposable cups (12 oz.), deodorants (for men & women), liquid dishwashing detergent, disposable razors, liquid hand soap, and bar soap.
When Can I Drop Off My Donation?
Food for the Soul accepts donations 7 days per week from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
What Are the Requirements for Staying at the Shelter?
Families and anyone wishing to stay at the shelter must be 18 or older, present identification, be a resident of Kershaw County, and be willing to abide by basic rules of conduct.
We will conduct a background check for all potential residents.
People who are not residents of Kershaw County will be allowed to stay a maximum of two nights at the shelter.
Does the Shelter Help Residents Find Jobs?
In an effort not to duplicate services that already exist in the community, Food for the Soul works closely with other agencies that provide employment and employment training to those looking for work.
How Can I Reach Someone Staying at the Shelter?
The names of residents who stay at the shelter are kept confidential.
How Long Are People Allowed to Stay at the Shelter?
We are a 90-day program for Kershaw County residents. Families that are residents of Kershaw County will be allowed to stay for a maximum of 30 days. Non-residents of Kershaw County will be allowed to stay a maximum of 2 days.
Does the shelter assist with transitional housing?
We offer a few transitional rooms at the shelter for qualified residents continuing their progress to independence. Rooms have a small monthly rental fee and can be occupied for up to 8 months. We also assist with other transitional options in Kershaw and surrounding counties.
